Mission and Social Concerns

First and Trinity seeks to minister to the local community and the larger world.

We make our building available to the following support groups and programs, either at no cost or reduced cost, as an extension of our mission:

  • Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Al-Anon
  • Weekday Nursery School
  • Peppermint Players

We support the following programs and services:

  • local food pantries and the Community Food Bank of NJ
  • Interfaith Hospitality Network of Essex County (services to homeless families)
  • Annual Backpack Drive for children served by the NJ Department of Child Protection and Permanency
  • First Friends of NJ/NY in support of detained immigrants and asylum seekers
  • Camp Johnsonburg scholarships for summer camp opportunities for low-income children
  • Holiday Hat and Mitten Drive
  • One Great Hour of Sharing, targeting national and international hunger and self-development programs
  • World Class Education Initiative children’s book drive

Through social action, education, and financial support, we are involved in a number of social issues, such as the following:

  • the plight of immigrant detainees at the Newark Detention Center
  • the local interfaith Holocaust Remembrance Service
  • marriage equality and other civil rights issues
  • fair trade practices
